CONTEXT

This was one of my first large app builds at Platform Venture Studio. Sprinkle was an amazing design challenge and I am so proud of what myself and our design team were able to accomplish. Sprinkle allows the user to discover relevant candidates that mach their values. You can then create a contribution budget that is dispersed equally amongst your "Sprinkles". Designing a system that seamlessly allowed users to sprinkle a donation equally across their list of candidates was a unique challenge; I absolutely loved Sprinkle's user experience.

Discover candidates (Figma)

We had so much fun exploring color and confetti with this build. Designed primarily for mobile, I was able to focus on mobile-specific design principles, styles and components. We wanted the appearance of an endless scroll to give users the impression that there were many candidates that met their preferences/values.

Discover candidates (App)

For the final app, I restructured the filters for simplicity and so as not to push content further down the page. The main thing that changed on the homepage from design to launch was offering a general search page as opposed to only offering top choices selected by our algorithm.

CHALLENGES

I had worked on a few existing products in Platform's portfolio, but this was my first new build as a part of the team. As a very ambitious and hard-working designer, I tried to bite off more than I could chew. Sprinkle was built with long hours and late nights, but I am grateful to have had the opportunity to grow and fail on a much grander scale.

Create a movement (App)

One challenge I encountered during the build of this product was saying no. Being new, I wanted to shatter expectations and jam as much functionality into this product as possible. While I should have been improving existing flows and NPS, I implemented a movement system, allowing users to create a community with their favorite candidates and share with their friends. While this feature worked well, the app itself wasn't performing well enough to warrant creating new features.

Financial snapshot (App)

Another challenge involved syncing real-time financial data from different external databases. Apart from the implementation, I wanted to display this to users in a way that truly represented a snapshot. How is my candidate doing against their direct opponent? If they're falling short, maybe I should consider increasing my donation.

LEARNINGS

Sprinkle was a great test of my product management, collaboration and UX skills as well as my ability to build a great mobile app. Sprinkle's founder brought in an external PM which was an adjustment for the design team's process.
